Through the Acting Head of Technical Department Mr. Idrissa Mahamadou Soumana, the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region (CCRS) is participating from June 25 to 28, 2024 in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) in the workshop on private sector engagement for the financing and implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the second phase of its Climate Promise initiative, the main aim of the workshop is to support the implementation of ambitious NDCs in a coordinated, efficient and inclusive way.
The various sessions will bring together key public and private sector stakeholders to discuss NDCs and their investment plans, climate funds and other financial instruments, as well as approaches/initiatives conducive to greater private sector involvement.
On day 2 of the workshop, the CCRS was honored to present its first paper on the challenges and opportunities of its operationalization, particularly in the context of support for the implementation of NDCs in its member countries, presented by the acting Head of the Technical Department, Mr. Idrissa Mahamadou Soumana. This presentation enabled participants from a variety of backgrounds in the climate agenda (government, private sector, financial institutions) from 7 member countries to appreciate the opportunities offered by the Commission’s agenda, particularly in terms of support for the development of structuring projects and capacity building.
The Executive Secretary of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region, SEM. Issifi Boureima was delighted to hear about the remarkable participation of the private sector and financial institutions, all key players in the climate agenda. He thanked the UNDP and its Climate Promise initiative for holding the event and supporting the participation of stakeholders from member countries, yet another example of the UNDP’s commitment to working alongside countries in the face of this challenge.
To the Executive Secretary of the CCRS SEM. Issifi Boureima made a special mention of Mr. Sire Diallo and his colleagues for their efforts in mobilizing the country’s stakeholders and for their frank collaboration with the CLS team.
