The Executive Secretary of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region, SEM. Issifi Boureima had a virtual meeting today, July 03, 2024, with Mr Tendai Kasinganeti, Climate Security Advisor at the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission (AUC).
The meeting, planned as part of the CCRS’s collaboration with the Peace and Security Department of the African Union Commission (AUC), provided an opportunity to exchange views on the process of drawing up a common African position on the climate, peace and security nexus, after Mr Tendai had presented the roadmap for this very important agenda, designed to ensure the coherence and synergy of climate security actions in Africa and the Sahel in particular.
The Executive Secretary of the CCRS said he was delighted with the common vision he shared with Mr Tendai on how to tackle this issue, in particular the need to strengthen the framework for dialogue, synergy of action and support for the sharing of experience on an African scale.
Mr Tendai was assured by the Executive Secretary of the CCRS that the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region was fully prepared to work with the African Union Commission to ensure the success of this process and the priority actions that will be programmed to strengthen the resilience and pacification of the continent and the Sahel in particular. They agreed on an agenda of meetings to be planned in the near future, as well as priority actions to be carried out jointly.
SEM. Issifi Boureima once again thanked Mr Tendai for his commitment to the success of this continental climate security initiative, as well as for the exemplary collaboration between the AU Peace and Security Department and the CLS.
