Launch of the national workshop to validate priority capacity-building needs in the field of climate change adaptation and the draft roadmap for the establishment of the CCRS National Working Group (NWG) for Senegal.

A national capacity-building workshop for Senegal opens in Dakar on July 15, 2024, organized by the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region (CCRS) in collaboration with Senegal’s Ministry of the Environment and Ecological Transition, as part of the project to implement regional and national adaptation priorities in West and Central Africa (Projet PACO).

During the address by His Excellency Issifi Boureima, Executive Secretary of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region, delivered by Mrs Leila Adamou Harouna, Technical Department Expert, representing the CCRS at the workshop, mention was made of the issues and challenges of climate change facing the Sahel region in general and the Republic of Senegal in particular. He also stressed the importance of the workshop’s objectives, in particular the validation of the results of the study to identify Senegal’s priority needs in terms of capacity building for adaptation to climate change, and the adoption of the modalities for setting up the CCRS National Working Group (NWG) for Senegal.

As for Colonel Papa Assane Ndipur, First Technical Advisor, representing the Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition, in his speech at the opening of the workshop he recalled that climate change is an undeniable reality, before highlighting the need to implement concrete actions, prioritizing those dedicated to adapting to climate change.

He also invited the workshop’s stakeholders to contribute actively to the discussions in order to highlight Senegal’s priority needs.
