The Climate Commission for the Sahel Region (CCRS) took part, by videoconference, in the quarterly meeting of the Steering Committee of the “Priorité d’Adaptation en Afrique Centrale et de l’Ouest – PACO” project.
With the other members of the consortium, including the African Development Bank (ADB), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and GIZ, discussions focused on the Project’s 2023 annual report, the presentation of the “MIGITAL” tool for monitoring the implementation of the PACO Project in beneficiary countries, and the assessment of activities carried out from April to June 2024.
On this occasion, the current state of implementation of CLS activities was presented to the Committee. The main achievements were as follows:
– strengthening the administrative and technical capacities of the CLS Executive Secretariat.
the organization of national workshops to identify priority capacity-building needs in the field of climate change adaptation in Benin and Côte d’Ivoire, with the Senegal workshop scheduled for July.
-development of roadmaps for the establishment of CCRS National Working Groups (NWGs) in Benin and Côte d’Ivoire.
The Steering Committee expressed its satisfaction with the results achieved by the CLS over the past quarter, and agreed to meet face-to-face in Dakar on the sidelines of the national workshop to officially launch the PACO Project in Senegal in July 2024.
As a reminder, the activities planned for the CCRS under Component I of the project: “Regional support and coordination” aim to strengthen its institutional and operational capacities in order to effectively support its member countries in implementing adaptation activities. This involves the dissemination of tools, information and advice on adaptation strategies, the development of progress indicators and the creation of information systems for monitoring adaptation activities.
